Re: Cheap power strips for best sound.

Hi Lejonklou, I am sorry, I forgot to mention the Masterplug powerstrip I am using is new, but the sound does flow better than my Pro Elec power strip. So why buy another Masterplug powerstrip, when I already have one ? The older Masterplug power strip was a six socket power strip, and I was only us...

Re: Cheap power strips for best sound.

I have gone back to using the Masterplug power strip, and I agree the music flows better.

With the added bonus the print on the mains cable travels from the plug to the power strip.

So I am staying with the Masterplug for now.

Re: Cheap power strips for best sound.

Hi Lejonklu and Charlie. I looked up tunedem, and to be honest I agree with the statement "The philosophy at Linn is very simple: if it sounds better, it is better." What is interesting is that i don't own Linn or naim gear, yet using this principle my system does sound better with the very basic ch...

Re: Cheap power strips for best sound.

Hi Charlie, Having followed your adventures with the Masterplug and Pro Elec. It seems you like both, as they each have there own sound signature. I like the Pro Elec very much. I found the sound was much warmer, much more hi-fi. It is a sound I am really enjoying. I also found it removed the digita...

Re: Cheap power strips for best sound.

I will look forward to that Charlie. It will be interesting to see your comparison between the two.

On my own system, the Pro Elec is superior by far. But every system is different.

Thanks

Re: Cheap power strips for best sound.

Hi Charlie.

To be honest, I don't know how much of an advantage an unswitched socket would make, but it removes another set of switches from the equation.

Glad you purchased the Pro Elec. Hopefully it will work well with your system. Did you purchase from CPC ?

Re: Cheap power strips for best sound.

Thank you for all the replies.

I am really happy with the Pro Elec mains strip. So for now I am going to stick with it.

I want to replace my switched double socket for an unswitched double socket.

Any recommendations would be most welcome.

Thank you

Re: Cheap power strips for best sound.

Thank you for your advice lejonklou I have just checked my Pro Elec mains cable and the text direction is from the mains strip to the plug. Is it normally better if the text direction is from the plug to mains strip ? I bought two of these plugged in to a double socket. I have used the full 3 metre ...

Re: Cheap power strips for best sound.

This is the power strip I am using at the moment CPC Pro Elec 6 Gang Extension Lead, 3m - 1596. Very cheap, and I have found it to be good quality. I am sure that it is due to the simplified parts that contributes to the excellent sound. Because there are no iec sockets on the power strip to plug a ...

Cheap power strips for best sound.

I was wondering if anybody uses cheap plastic power strips. I tried them, and to my complete surprise they sound much, much better than the expensive power blocks I have owned. Maybe it's the simplified design, moulded parts, and plugs which contribute to the way they sound. In my experience they so...

Re: Using a hydra multiway plug

Well the skytronic arrived in the post today. I have not even wired it up, and I am already not impressed with it. Why ? I unscrewed the cover to have a look inside to see the wire arrangement which was fine. But when I fitted the cover back on to button it up, the screws would not tighten, they jus...

The way you have your systems mains setup is very interesting spannko.
It seems unique. How long did it take you to set it up ?

Re: Using a hydra multiway plug

Thank you for the reply. I don't own linn or naim hifi equipment. But I do use the tune method, and currently using longwell mains cables, and a cheap mains extension as recommended. With my own system this has worked very well. I purchased the skytronic to reduce the amount of plugs in the mains ex...

Re: Using a hydra multiway plug

I have purchased a skytronic 13 Amp Plug to take 4 devices from 1 mains multiway plug. It is very similar to a naim hydra. I have never used one of these devices before, and I wanted to know if it is safe to plug into a 6 way mains extension ? I am thinking it may cause an overload electrically. Any...

Uk plug fuses

What plug top fuse do linn use with UK mains cables, and are these chosen by linn for the best sound quality ?

I know naim use marbo 13 amp fuses.

I currently use SEM fuses, and my experience with audiophile fuses has not been revelatory. Have you seen the prices !

Any replies most appreciated

Re: Accidental Damage to hi fi

Hi Lego. Your right I need to get over it. I was just so gutted. I will get over it, but like most accidents you want to kick yourself for being so clumsy. At least the front panel survived unscratched, and the internals of the receiver are undamaged. Fredrik, I feel for you. Scratching a new car, I...

Accidental Damage to hi fi

I have a very nice Yamaha CR420 receiver. It was in mint condition, recently serviced, and my pride and joy, along with the rest of my hifi system. So what happened ? I was changing my hifi rack around to accommodate a new piece of kit. I placed the receiver back on the bottom shelf, then went to pl...

Back to hifi sanity

Hi. This is my very first post on the Lejonklou website. So what brought me to this forum ? All of my hifi equipment is from Yamaha. I have more or less always had Yamaha gear simply because I think it is the best. For a long time I was left very frustrated with speaker cable, mains cable choices on...
