What I Learned from JV

Spannko, There are many standards I've learned over the years. Many of them emanated from Julian Vereker. Some proven more-so by Fredrik Lejonklou. 1. A proper audio toroidal transformer has an iron core. 2. A proper audio transformer has a center-tapped output with single secondary outputs. It may ...

Re: Entity MC

I very happy with sound the new configuration! Entity make music so expansive , nuanced, emotional and alive ! Very engaging but also very harmonious. Just so right musically and a fabulous sound too. I couldn't be happier. It has taken my system to a new level and I had lots of joy and dancing alr...

Tony, I'm sorry I didn't get to hear your hi-fi longer and inspect its' faults further and give you improvement recommendations. When was the last time you had someone cli...

That Voice Again

I relistened/watched again to try and see Oscar. On my phone, I could see a line and a huge room ahead. Turns out it is a reflection from a door-wall. I still couldn't see Oscar but now understood the room size and dimensions. Fortunately I had more wine to drink and hadn't thrown the fruit out yet....

Wine and Not Whine

Thank you all for your contributions. Pleased with the positive feedback to the clips and overall setup. Now the most interesting part. B is Gaio 2 and A is 2.4. Have I botched the setup? No, some have botched the listening. I had trouble deciding when listening on my phone. But I am a Moscato guy....

How to learn tunedem?

Linnjim, Have you read this post; Setting Up Loudspeakers For The Best Tune ? You are doing the right thing setting up speakers, then buying furniture. I would trust your wife's ears and do this with her. As Fredrik mentions in the linked post, it is good to have someone help you. Perhaps put an ad ...

Re: Netgear GS108T Power Supply

Spannko, It's not even close! That is a perfect "tune-dem" song. The stock supply allows much better following of the guitar notes as they rise and fall. Same goes for the bass line. With the DIY supply, the guitar and bass are out of tune with each other. Johnny's voice also has a jump of excitemen...

Re: Briks missing bass

Thank you very much for your thoughts and hints. Regarding a dedicated power circuit, that was always the first action after a move. Many smiled at the time and some of them came and asked for a separate cable and fuse for their hifi. So I smiled quietly in each case. Hermann, I'm very happy to not...

The Mighty Richmont Sturtevant CAL36/4

I started off with an RS Components torque driver and later added a Wera one to expand the range. I found there was a noticeable improvement to sound quality even when compared to a professionally setup deck. That was until I saw the recommendation, on the AT95 thread, that one of the screw torque ...

Re: Define "Servicing"

Class A are the authorised Naim service centre in the UK, and they get parts/service kits direct from the Naim factory. I've no experience of them myself, but I've seen nothing but praise for Darran's work. He is not one of the self-proclaimed Naim 'experts' (who, as far as I can see, barely concea...

What Has Changed?

Hermann, Has the lack of deep bass happened since day one in this room? Has there been any other changes at all in your system preceding this? I have followed your posts since back in the Mana days and know you are quite fastidious and consistent in your set-ups. If everything is exactly the same fr...

Naim NAP110 in "mono" are special versions or you run two standard stereo using one channel ? Vlado, Everything I own is special. Naim Getting Worse?!

Thanks for the background info Ron. Just as a matter of interest, do you have an explanation for why the Naim amps appeared to get worse, to some people, as time went by? Eg, Nait 1 (red) >>> Nait 1 (green) >>> Nait 2 etc. Or were they wrong to think so? Interesting information Ron, and a really go...

Define "Servicing"

The 250 was only just serviced by Class A, but I’ve not compared it to another one. I listened to it prior to service and the overall character was much the same as post service. The Hicap was also serviced by Class A, but back in 2017. I will just have to bear in mind your comments for now. Charli...

Mine was brand new.
Linntek,
Sometimes when new, there is still oil or dirt present.

You can also reuse a magnet from another older screwdriver; pop it out of the old and glue into the new.

Sealy Torque Wrench

Just bought a SEALEY SCREWDRIVER TORQUE DIGITAL 0.05-5NM 1/4, I didn’t really expect anything but I’m very surprised of how well it works. It is pretty accurate (2%) and it it comes with a nice calibration sheet. The range is perfect and it’s easy to use. One flaw is that it doesn’t hold the bits f...

Without the TV is certainly better. Now what do you do with the TV? Modern TVs are very easy to dismantle. Lay the TV (screen side down) on a bed with a soft sheet to protect the screen. I actually ran Ron's pair before he bought them in the store with both a Tundra stereo and a pair of Tundra Monos. Diversions

Despite how unctuous the Kans sound with a 250 in play, going back to 12/110, 12/160, Nait was just a lot more enjoyable for me, which I guess is where we differ - there was 'something' getting in the way of the music with the 250 setups which is a shame. Charlie1, We don't differ at all. I guarant...

Brikin' It and Kikin' It!

Charlie1, Tom was specifically speaking of the era when the Isobariks had the Cannon connector on the back. There have been several versions after that. The later versions with external crossover sound much better and are far more efficient. A NAP110 will work just fine. I have been running my Isoba...
