TARANDUS is a series of upgrades for all our pre and power amplifiers

The reason behind TARANDUS is this: The integrated amplifier project Boazu started as an attempt to build something cost effective and “good enough”. Pretty soon it became evident that a much higher level of performance could be reached by a complete removal of all extra features (such as phono preamp, headphone output and line level output) and a very tight and fine tuned integration of input and output circuits. In the end, Boazu became so good that it rivals our stereo pre and power amp, Sagatun and Tundra, which together cost more than twice as much. Some would call that a problem. I call it a wonderful opportunity.

I would certainly never dumb down the “too good” integrated Boazu. And the development work had taught me some new tricks. These are all related to power supplies, power regulation and ideal idling currents. Instead of saving these tricks and applying them to the next circuit board designs (usually quite expensive upgrades), I decided to implement the changes here and now. This results in cost effective and environment friendly upgrades. And our pre and power amps take a good leap forward in performance.

First out was TARANDUS for Sagatun Mono. It was released the 14th of October 2016 and consists of the following:

  • A new firmware with improved sound and new functionality
  • A modification of both power supplies for more stable voltage rails
  • The Control Link is improved, so that sync between Master and Servant becomes more robust

The second TARANDUS upgrade is for Tundra Mono. It was released the 14th of November 2016 and consists of:

  • Improved filtering of power lines, starting at 0.9 instead of 5 Hz
  • Improved stability of low power idling currents, due to the addition of a new circuit

The third TARANDUS upgrade is for Sagatun. It’s released the 9th of January 2017 and consists of:

  • A new firmware with improved sound and new functionality
  • A modification of both power supplies for more stable voltage rails
  • A small modification of the digital power regulation
  • The Control Link is improved, so that sync between Master and Servant becomes more robust

The fourth and last TARANDUS upgrade is for Tundra. It’s released the 9th of January 2017 and consists of:

  • Improved filtering of power lines, starting at 0.9 instead of 5 Hz
  • Improved stability of low power idling currents, due to the addition of a new circuit

So now all of my products have the “Reindeer improvements” (Rangifer Tarandus is the scientific name for Reindeer, Boazu is the Sami name for the Reindeer).
