MM stage in Majik/Akurate

Post by Linntek »

I have just discovered that on the MM board there is a DS2430 mounted. It's a Dallas/Maxim Onewire device with 256 bit EEprom memory and a 48 bit uniqe identifier (ROM).
$1 device - so I guess it serves some kind of purpose.

Does the MM stage fit only the product it was born in. Have anyone ever swapped phonostages and did it work.
Does the Amp need to be programmed so the amp recognize the MM board?
Does a new MM/MC board need to be mathed to the amp's serial number?
Does it need some kind of programming if converted to line level?

I wonder what that thing does there - preventing creative people designing better phonostages, as I recall someone did that some time ago :-)

The Onewire protokol is easy to hack so unless they are using some rolling codes.... am I getting paranoid here?

Yes, you're getting paranoid here. The MM card can be upgraded by simply ordering the MM/MC card and replacing the MM one. No serial numbers required. I am quite certain you can swap cards from unit to unit to your heart's content without a problem. What the chip does is beyond me.
