The stageline is around £260 and can be supplied from a Naim preamp, but what I listened to was around £1300

Had a dem of the kinki 3. It was with a Majik LP12, kk1 and Klimax 350A, and compared it to the Naim stageline with hicap. The Kinki 3 was better at tunedem, whereas the Naim was bit more refined but wasnt as involving. Also the Naim is considerably more expensive. Overall the Kinki 3 is exceptional...

I have never associated "paranoia" with aktiv filter settings, however. And from my experience, people over here don't fiddle with them (or speaker position) when they are dissatisfied. It must be us lot over in U.K. then! When I owned Keltiks, more so with the klimax crossovers, I definitely suffe...

I think too many adjustments create paranoia, you have a good session and are convinced setting are perfect. Then you are stressed or bad mains and the system no longer sings......reflex reaction adjust settings.
Good old passive systems!

Must admit I have normally found default settings work best.

I think the old keltik momo bass cards were in 1dB steps.

The only cards I had to adjust were kabers usually needing more bass and less treble.

There will be no damage. It would make far more sense to save your money, you would forget the differences within weeks.

Another after thought, a majority who upgrade to aktiv, go back to passive, often a difference is seen as an upgrade. During the recession I know of a few who have reverted have been surprisedhow much they still enjoyed their systems. I have recently hooked up some sara 9s to my klimax system, and c...

An interesting observation. Naim has a philosophy a better amp passive outperforms a cheaper amp aktiv, and I agree, many uninformed quote "it doesn't matter when aktiv the amps have less work to do", some even mix amps! I went aktiv with isobariks, kabers and owned aktiv keltiks. Aktiv genarally al...

As I do not regard 2200 passive to 5100 aktiv to be a big improvement I would go for kk1.

No minimum spk cable length but Fredrik will tell us soon!
How about 2 short k400 lengths to each spk, it is less obtrusive.

I guess the same multi-wiring drawbacks are at work in an aktiv setup, only masked by the overall better performance to be had from bypassing the passive crossover? Not sure how you could ever prove that though. An aktiv system is totally different, in a passive system up to 5 spk cables are connec...

I think the hi fi would look better in the corner. A cabinet between the speakers is a fair compromise, try to keep some space between spk and cabinet, and not too high.

multi wiring

Do you think it is for similar reasons, again despite great claims for multi amps, I prefer single amps, I know people who add another twin or solos, which to me has the same affect, less musicality. Whether this is true in an underpowered amp where improvement is to be had the extra power? I even p...

pt2 As regards temperatures and pressures, when using knekt 4mm plugs the k400 fits very snugly, a good mechnical connection, I then almost flow the solder in, I feel resonably confident they will have encountered a as close to the same treatment per plug. Also it endorsed my feelings from previous ...

Well thank you Fredrik, you have restored my sanity. I have tried multi wiring in the past but have always preferred the single wired. Have you seen this link http://docs.linn.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Products The ripnas does indeed use asset but that is not a bad thing. Hard wiring is the best way. Hi Fredrik One was in fact a troika by ES in an ekos, I had heard initially when new from Linn and a couple of times as it was wearing. The final time was after the upgrade, it was no longer tuneful and appeared to be more clinical. I also had a similar result from what I think was a arkiv 1. The th...

as are mids on espek and katan

and kaber and keltik.

But none of the three are inter related.
