Hi Broccoli Firstly let me say I am no expert on matters related to electricity! Which is why I enlisted my friend to advise and help. I have read quite a bit that a separate power supply for Hi Fi ie. one that is not connected to the Fridge, freezer etc etc seems to be recommended to avoid interfer...

Fredrik, The 6mm electrical cable just replaces the "normal" sized cable(2.5mm) used for general wall plug circuits. Also instead of the installation being a "ring" ie returning to the fusebox, its just a length which doesnt return! 6mm cable is often used for showers and occasionally cookers, thoug...

Hi Fredrik, I have had the 6mm twin and earth spur installed to take the place of the 2.5mm "ring". From what I have read I would expect this to sound better!!?? Anyway, I have an electrician friend who was happy to assist and advise. It is connected via an 8amp RCD(do I mean that?) to the "fuse box...

Ive had made 4 of the Linn silver ICs for XO to power amps.- 4 to go! I am soldering the silver bananas to the k400. - 8 sti...

Thanks for that Pediatrik. Im hoping that the Keltiks will arrive next week! Just sorting out a safe method of transport! Also just about to place an order for the "ninka" tweets. Started making the 8 short IC's for the XO to the Power amps! It would be so much easier if I just went to Currys and bo...

Well I am now the proud owner of 1999 Keltik Klimax XO's! There are of course "gains" beside the bass/mid/treble. I cant find any manuals on Linn site regarding default settings. I do recall with chakras(?) that default was 3 clicks after "off", if that makes sense. Also the setting on the balanced/...

Thanks again. So it may be better to try 2200(?) passive - though I reckon I should replace the XO, it/they certainly seem original. Or as you suggest forget it altogether! Its one for the future to play with, as I say its L & R first. Thomas, so you feel that even 100 into each individual speaker w...

M.L. Id never considered that! Given the amount of "positives" that this system(once I pull all the parts together) is producing! Once I try the 4200's and the system "rocks" the way most are suggesting - I guess there is no reason not to try and "tradeup" - I remember hearing Komris with 8 solos!!!...

Thanks Pediatrik. The klimax XO's are on their way! Im negotiating the purchase of the Keltiks - one pair is with a dealer, the other is a private sale. Yes, as suggested I will change the tweeters. Both pairs have the originals. Im happy to play with the positioning of the speakers - its one of the...

Thomas, And I must say having had active klouts with Ninkas, the 200 active chakras were another big step forward! Its all sounding quite promising! Im thinking that if they are still available in a weeks time, Ill give them a try with the set up described. Akurate - Kinos - Klimax TB,s - 4200's - K...

Thomas, Thanks for that. I have a friend who would sell me his Espek Klimax TB's if I wanted them. BUT, in either case, from what you say the Keltiks are superior - much the same view was expressed by one or two on Topica. Im going down to have a look at a pair of Keltiks next week end. My thoughts ...

Hi All, Just interested in everyone's opinion on the following. It was fairly clear from Topica. On the end of Akurate cd - Kinos - KK tunebox - "200" chakra active amps. Would you prefer Keltiks or Espeks? I have heard Espeks a number of times and like them, not heard Keltiks. Opinions and thoughts...

Linnofil, I also have bought and sold quite a lot of Linn gear and generally been very lucky! My only guess, and it is a guess, is that previous owners may have played with or modified the original product? This will, of course, have been spotted by Linn, who understandably will therefore hike the p...

repair costs
Hi(again)
I had a kout repaired about 1 year ago and it was £150 plus the postage. The repair included the replacement of both the main pcb's! I think they normally retail for around £300 each!!
Wonderful service.
Dont undertsand the sky high costs you guys are being charged.
Steve.

Hi Guys, Dont know if this helps at all, but I was on one of the Linn 3 day courses in Feb this year. As I recall, I thought(as has been stated) there were indeed 2 price levels. The "normal" one being £150 and the other was £230(?) for the more expensive gear. I guess these prices may have increase...

Hi Hugo, Like you I think this is a vital part of the set up! I have VERY similar results, also with 350A's. Room size: 45 square metres ( essentially a rectangle) Wall Behind 4.5 metre Distance to back wall 21.5 cm Side wall 100cm Tow in 6 cm. Ive played with them for hours and this is the best. I ...

Hi M.L Im assuming all was as it should have been. The dem. was done with a well known Linn dealer in Germany, Im hoping therefore it would be a "fair" and true A/B comparison. That said, in no way am I defending my purchase or decrying someone elses. Its seems clear that both players are excellent ...

Just had a friend email me from Germany. Today he auditioned the Akurate against the 1.1(with latest upgrades etc) and was so convinced it was better("by a wide margin") than the 1.1, he placed an order on the spot!! And once again all this proves is that audtion, preferably in your own home if poss...

M.L I heard the cd 12 back in Feb, and really was amazed at the quality. In an A/B with the 1.1 I thought it was "better". I dont think I have ever heard a piano sound so much like a piano! Hi All, Having listened to my Akurate cd player for about 1 week, I would urge anyone looking for a "musical" upgrade to give one an audition! I previously had a majik cd and a 2.1. I really am surprised by how much "better" it sounds. If you do get a chance to audition, Id be interested if Linns ne...

Hi Ledcam, I had 3 active klouts in the past. They were driving Ninkas. The chakras were the first amps I heard that made me want to change. Ive not had extended time with 140's, but Im guessing most would accept that klouts would be better amps!? The fact you are going "active" with the 6100 whereas...

Ceilidh, I had 3 klouts for a while. If it is older than 10 years and you are friends with a competent electrical engineer or other. It may be worth considering getting it recapped. I had all 3 done - BIG difference. About £150 for each one? Others may have diffeerent ideas, but I thought it was mon...
5103 fan
flojo Its a year or so since I had a 5103. As I recall the fan came on when the temp. display read 60?? Most of the time the temp reading was around 50. However, during summer months or winter months of full heating, it would occasionally come on. If its coming on at temps lower than this I guess th...
