Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

Did you desolder and then resolder the cable or did you cut it? I have a special cable that I've used for small mass joint comparisons for at least a decade. I still have more than 50 of them so I can let the joints age and hear the impact of time and burn-in. I first make sure they sound exactly t...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

The single joint soldered with these temperatures was the inner (signal) lead on the single RCA interconnect between Källa and one Sagatun Mono. IIUC, the soldering was done on a Linn Silver IC on the Källa end or the SM end or on both ends? Not a Silver IC, but a cable I use for these tests only. ...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

Fredrik, with this knowledge in hand do you think you'll be able to produce interconnects that's even better than Linn Silver? If so then you'll have me and very likely a bunch of other people lining up to buy a pair! I have tried and failed. Maybe one day I will succeed. Just bought myself a pair ...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

I do use my own amplifiers, every day. This system, however, consists of Källa, Sagatun Mono and JBL708P. It’s really good for movies and pretty good for music. The 708’s have certain strengths which are fundamentally different from those of Klångedang T1’s (which I find more musical but they strugg...

Re: Recommended network components

I don’t know exactly what Roon Rock consists of, but I recommend staying well away from their software if you care about music. Källa works with Roon (well at least so far it has) but looses its magic. This is because the optimised timing of Protokoll is messed up by Roon taking charge of what is pl...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

I agree these clips are difficult. And it's one speaker only playing, which makes it worse.

The lower bass is where I find the most difference. When I listen on the computer speakers, it's hopeless. With Airpods Max, it's a lot easier (they go deep).

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

I'm going to follow up on my test in November, where you listened to the difference between 352 and 353 degrees Celsius on one soldered joint. Most of you preferred 353 degrees C. Here were the two clips: https://www.lejonklou.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=71527#p71527 I went ahead with the idea of tryi...

Re: JBL 3677

What are your thoughts on completely rebuilding the crossover with high-quality components? My thoughts are these: You will fail miserably. I tried to improve the filters, certain that it would not be particularly difficult. It was the opposite. Every value is precisely where it should be. Every co...

Re: Setting up loudspeakers for the best tune

Measure what is most practical. If the loudspeaker cabinets are rectangular boxes, you can measure the distance apart between the upper inside edges. If they have rounded shapes, you might have to find some other point that is easier to measure.

Re: Setting up loudspeakers for the best tune

Hi erho! The distance apart (left to right speaker) is usually the same or close to the same as with the speakers against another wall. I don’t consider it important at all where you sit. If you wish to maximise the stereo effect, you sit with the speakers at equal distance in front of you, like a t...

Interesting Sopper! As I’ve been through these same tests before, can I humbly suggest you test some cables that are in between these two? Because neither K400 nor single core have ever sounded any good in mains applications, in my experience. Offcourse, Fredrik And what cable/wire would that be? I...

Re: Hermanns System

Nota bene: This could all be due to something entirely different being wrong with Hermann’s SM.

But from Hermann’s detailed descriptions, his highly sensitive Isobarik-on-Mana system and my own listening tests, I strongly suspect the higher torque below the main board.

Re: Hermanns System

I'm ordering a pick-up of Hermann's Sagatun Mono for a return to my lab. I believe I know what the problem is. I have only done a handful of Sagatun 1.7 upgrades so far. The procedure consists of several details, such as changes to the power supplies (which take a long time to break in), new screws ...

Re: Which App ? (Streaming + Local)

Welcome to the forum, Lio! I don’t have any answer to your question, as my NAS is disconnected since many months. Although there are many optimally ripped albums on it, I felt the difference in sound quality compared to Qobuz and Spotify was so small that it wasn’t worth the hassle. In addition, dis...

We've gone through all the settings on the Spotify app again. I recommend that you check yours, because the difference in musical quality can be big. If you did check them a while back, you might need to redo it, because when the app is updated, some settings can change. And new settings are sometim...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

Even later to the party, I found the comparison difficult and the difference small.

Have you tried what happens if you have no washer in between foot and speaker?

I think the difference in surface area makes a bigger impact than the material of the washer.
