Re: Vinyl pressings that made a big difference
I don't remember if I posted this story here already. It's hard to remember what I've posted in which forums, so apologies if you've read this before. The first time I heard Peter Gabriel's So album was also the first time I heard an LP12 (and Keltiks). So taken was I by what I heard I immediately b...

Re: A tracking weight experiment for LP12 owners
I'd have to take a look at an Ekos 1 or 2 to see where it lands on that arm. However, on an Ekos SE it is designed so that the counterweight is very close to the bearing housing with a Kandid or similar weight cartridge installed. With the one I just tested above there is very little space between ...

Excellent report.
I had to make a small edit to my post. Originally I had listed my cartridge as a Delos, but it's actually a Dorian. I'm always getting those two mixed up.

Ekos Mk.1 (complete with sticky VTF adjuster), Lyra Dorian MC cartridge. VTF: 1.7 Anti-skate: 1.75-1.8 (difficult to be more precise with the scale markings only in 0.5 increments) Some notes: 1) I did this exercise about a dozen times on different records, and at different positions on the record. ...

Re: Optimizing Audacity for Ripping Vinyl
Thanks, Christian. Some good information there. I just assumed Audacity was the program of choice since that seems to be what everyone here is using. The prospect that there's a potentially better program out there complicates matters exponentially.

Ray of Light was available on vinyl? I had no idea! Time to give my local crack...erm...record dealer a call.

Optimizing Audacity for Ripping Vinyl
Hi all, I searched the forums and only came up with a few bits and pieces, but I'm wondering if anyone has spent time coming up with the most musical combination of settings for analog to digital conversion in Audacity. This will be my first attempt at ripping from an analog source and I'm very curi...

Re: How I judge HiFi
Thank you, Flat, for your post. It comes at a rather fortuitous time for me. On Monday I was invited to tea by a friend and our host happened to have a CDS/82/Supercap/250/Ruark Crusader system. Upon seeing the big stack of green I jokingly told her that according to the internet she and I are sworn...

Loricraft PRC3 with upgraded pump for North American buyers
Hi all, I have a Loricraft PRC3 record cleaning machine with an upgraded vacuum pump from a PRC4. Machine is in very good condition with very minor scratches on the top surface. Comes with IEC power cord, waste jar and all associated tubing, two spools of thread, allan wrench for securing tone arm, ...

Solder Recommendations
A friend and fellow Linnie has called upon my services to convert a pair of Keilidhs to aktiv and re-terminate his K400 to suit his new (to him) 5105s. I'd like very much to do this the right way but it appears Frederic no longer supplies solder and I'm not sure what the current consensus is on the ...

Thanks Thomas, I appreciate the recommendation. I have a pair of Etymotic ER4P/S which are thus far by far the best portable transducers I've heard. The problem is their isolation from environmental noise is a bit TOO good and they just aren't practical/safe for use in public and on the streets. Bes...

I picked up a pair of JIBs today as I was getting fed up with the stock Apple earbuds. Good lord these things are HORRIBLE!!! Reticent weak and nasal midrange, bloated boomy and exaggerated bass, and highs that always sound like two pieces of sandpaper being scratched together. That would all be tol...

The Accidental TuneDem
Like many of you on this forum have probably experienced, I spent many years buying, selling, trading, and swapping gear in a misdirected attempt to find auditory satisfaction but with no focus or direction as to how that goal should be reached. It wasn’t until I got rid of everything and replaced i...

I was perusing some popular second-had audio websites last night when I happened upon a for sale listing for a certain pair of ATC SCM100 ASLs. So what's the next step? Curious minds want to know! I certainly wish I had the dosh to pick up those amazing speakers but I just spent almost the same mone...

Yes, I think so. Would probably cost more than the table itself. There is very cheap shipping in the UK, if you're not in a hurry, which makes it more viable. Thanks Charlie. I'm in no rush and it will be years before something like this comes up for sale again. Its worth it to me to at least look ...
