cartridge loading

Thanks for the great info. I use tube electronics, they are apparently less sensitive to the resistive load, also, according to the manufacturer (Jadis), the phono stage autoadapts to the cartridge used (there is no choice of resistive or capacitive load on the phono preamp). So, in conclusion, I th...

cartridge loading (for LINN ARKIV B)

The Arkiv B specs sheet says recommended load is higher than 50 ohms . This gives however a lot of choices possible between 50 ohms and the standard 47Kohms. In the stereophile review of the Arkiv B, I read “At 7.4gm, the Arkiv B is not a particularly heavy cartridge, and its stiff compliance will s...

for the antiskating setting I used , having an early ekos SE, the general rule VTF+0.5; then checked with hifi-news test record and adapted little bit however, to fine tune by ear I like the method indicated by my first post in this thread: Anti Skating This is new and vital information, never befor...

I forgot to say that the phono and line preamps have a chassis grounding post, and I attach the tonearm cable earth wire to the phono preamp grounding post (otherwise there is hum), and not to the Keel (dont ask me why, I just happened to have done like this so far). These two preamps are plugged to...

Is this possible with the Radikal power supply? For the rest of the system, I use Jadis tube phono preamp, line stage and power monoblocks, each with their external power supply, with a little bit complex installation using two power strips and two wall outlets. Ground issues is something which elud...

This is how to determine the speed deviation: First, you measure the drift from the laser light , in my case (excert from an email): I used the time line to check the speed of a newly upgraded Linn LP 12 with the Radikal DC motor, no speed adjustment available (automatic adjustment by tachemeter and...

LP 12 A/C ground wire

The Linn installation guide speaks about an optional green A/C ground wire attached to the rear chassis bolt, where there is also the P-clip. My LP12 does not have this ground wire (I am not speaking about the tonearm nor the Keel earth jumper wire). Would like to know the interet of this A/C ground...

OK, point taken for the protractor. However my question had two parts, the other one being the process of optimizing the different parameters VTA, VTF, antiskate, (azimuth), and their relationship with each other. The description of the process given in this paper is comprehensive and constitutes an...

The unit used by extremephono is lbf/in (pound force inch).
The conversion value in Nm for the torques refered to by extremephono are:
1Nm for the cartridge
0.9Nm for the VTA screw
0.8Nm for armboard/collar interface

LP 12 : the right torque

Regarding the torque to be applied to different component of the LP12, In particular for proper vibration draining from the cartridge-arm-Keel to the plinth, I had this answer from extremephono: With the Linn system, just make sure you use progressively more less torque moving up the mechanical path...

LP12 set-up: part 2: balancing the tonearm

Some analog experts suggest that the industry standard of balancing the tonearm by having it parallel to the record is wrong and advocate a tonearm sloping slightly down towards the back (i.e. towards the pivot). For example, Ringmat development writes (the guy who plays with cork...): "If there is ...

LP 12 set-up part 1 cartridge alignment

I discovered recently, on the website of vacuum state, a cartridge alignment method which looks promising: http://www.vacuumstate.com/fileupload/GuruSetUp.pdf which uses first the unorthodox Rowan McCombe's (aka The Guru) Phono Cartridge Protractor : http://www.vacuumstate.com/fileupload/Guru_protra...
