I think there is a bit of confusion here... It seems you are all talking about different ways of connecting the balanced cable. Paolo: You mean that in the source end, you connect cable "hot" to the RCA centre pin, "cold" to the RCA screen and cable screen to RCA screen. In the receiver end, you con...

Regarding the comparison Lingo 1 vs Lingo 2, I must point out that there is a slight variation in absolute speed between all Lingo units. If you run into a situation where you have a Lingo 1 that is on the slow side and compare it with a Lingo 2 that is on the fast side, you can get 0.5% higher spee...

Can't be there either, but I'd really love to hear some impressions afterwards. I think this approach is really smart as the Keel will most likely be regarded as inexpensive after the comparison. And when you've Keeled your LP12, you attend the Ekos SE demo that the shop will arrange at a later date...

Hi Tom, No it isn't, at least not at the moment. To make one, I would probably have to listen through everything again, with a US wall plug and 120 Volts. Then place a rather large order for the best combination. Doable, but not in my plans at the moment. I know that some people in America use a ded...

Shuko (euro) type distribution block I don't claim this to be the best distribution block available, but nearly! It sounds good and is very cheap. In Sweden the 6-way block is available at Clas Ohlson for SEK 35 (4€) and the part number is 32-7216. The cable is 1.4 meters long. The exact same type i...

Hi Lex and thanks for the good wishes! I have experimented with this many times. So far, the best method has been to solder the K400 to the BFA, but a high wattage soldering station and a high thermal capacity pen/tip is needed for best results. Also, the solder* and temperature makes a big differen...

So you are about to try it, tambrose? Great. Usually the directions of the individual conductors are mixed. Then you have to simply disconnect all the conductors from its plastic housing in one end (this is done by pushing down a flap on the metal part of the connector and then pull the conductor ou...

Everything out of aluminium starts as a cast piece. But that piece can be forged which makes it a lot harder. Presumably the block of aluminium that Linn starts with is forged (drawn), and therefore extremely strong. If you cast the Keel directly, it will not be as strong. I don't know exactly what ...

I have too little experience with multiple connections into a Neutrik to offer any "beauty" solution, I'm afraid. But generally speaking, on loudspeaker connections, a really good soldered connection sounds better than every screwed and crimped/screwed connection I have tried so far. But if the sold...

Thanks Vic! I did not have the impression of the new top spec LP12 sounding any louder, though... I'd rather say that on the demo I attended, the bass stopped bouncing around in the room when the Keel'ed LP12 was played. Less intrusive and easier to turn up the volume without the music feeling "loud...

For CD extraction, I recommend the free software Exact Audio Copy: Thanks, per! Linnofil: I would suspect that Naim makes their 56 kbit/s (man, that's low!) mp3:s from the master tapes and that is likely to be a lot better than using the 16 bit PCM track on the CD. Multiple conversions in the digit...

Not sure I fully understand your question, Vic. The reason I made the Hudik module was that Linn had promised a phono upgrade for the Exotik, but after 1,5 years it still wasn't available. I saw an opportunity, the Hudik MM was introduced in sept -05 and a year later Linn presented their MM/MC modul...

Has anyone some input on this matter, how to get the best .mp3's from your records? Yes, I would really like to know this too. I partly agree with you, Thomas, but not quite. It was a long time since the pricing of Linn equipment was related to manufacturing and distribution IMHO. It is rather related to the performance of the product and - yes, just that - what they think will yield the most profit. Linn is a professional ...

MP3 player and headphone This is copied from the topic about portable sound by Linnofil: I have always hated the MP3 players of the modern era, crap! I actually don’t think it is the compression that is the biggest problem. Music in DVD-films can be really good, even though it's compressed. (I thin...

Hi keV and welcome! I cannot understand how it can cost anywhere near £1950 to make. Well, it doesn't of course. The machining is the most expensive part, then you need to program all the shapes and the aluminum costs a bit too. Several people working in this field have commented on the cost of the ...

I do have full access to the same kind of machines that the Keel is made with, but there is no way I would just make a copy. If it could be made significantly better than a Keel (and preferably less expensive at the same time), well that would be another story. It would probably take a huge amount o...
