Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

I have recorded a third clip. Please let me know which you prefer. If you have already compared 'before' and 'after' maybe just compare 'after' and 'tighter': Before https://photos.app.goo.gl/GLNGC4sH8m22yrGL9 After https://photos.app.goo.gl/MJBvuVvxY42QR3D4A Tighter https://photos.app.goo.gl/hTy2Dy...

I presume you are happy with the Ubiquiti and it has been a good improvement in musicality.

Re: Recommended network components

Would it be worth using Ubiquity HD as another WI Fi network to feed my Kallas, ie keep the Virgin Hub as a router. I presume I would just connect one of the Ubiquity HD units to the virgin Hub with an Cat 6 cable. I am using it in this way. I have a PlusNet modem/router that is just being used as ...

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises

I think that the clips are pretty representative of what I hear in the room, so it's v interesting and helpful to read what you all think of them. I think that Fredrik's description of 'sloppy' for 'before' is very apt. I have made some more changes and will record another clip before making what I ...

How disruptive for you - but also exciting. I hope the move goes well and the new HQ works out even better without water.

Re: Pete's System

would you care to elaborate on the details of the sealant you used. might be a good experiment for my spare kabers. I followed the steps detailed here and used the same sealant recommended: https://hifikabin.me.uk/viewtopic.php?t=2665 I was initially planning to test with a pair of sacrificial spea...

I finally feel that I'm hearing this LP properly for the first time, despite owning it on various media for the last 37 years.

Re: Linn Akito/1 Refresh

Thanks for your thoughts.

I think I'll just bide my time and enjoy the deck as it is.

Despite the Akito's disappointing failure in the vertical and horizontal bearing tests, I'm really enjoying the LP12.

Linn Akito/1 Refresh

Now that I know my Akito bearings need a service, I'm wondering if I should also consider a rewire. I've been recommended J7. Has anyone had bearings and wiring serviced for the Akito/1? It would cost in total 1/3-1/2 the price of a used Ittok. I don't know what sort of tune impact the wiring would ...

Re: Pete's System

I followed Peter Swain's recommendation to replace the foam gaskets in my Espeks with a sealant. I wish I had recorded before and after clips as the difference is substantial, with improvements across the whole frequency range. It's like I have new speakers. I applied the same torques to the drivers...

Thanks Beck!

Started at 8am and still playing records....

Apparently the bearing benefits from about 200 hours running in, so might as well spin some disks while I'm at it.

Already sounding very sweet

Heat Shrink Recommendations

Having re-terminated my K400, I'd like to keep oxidation at bay. Any recommendations for suitable heat shrink tubing?

LP12 with Lingo 1, Kore and Karousel now hosting my old Akito.

Sounds lovely, even though the Akito bearings apparently need replacing on both axes.

Ha! No that wasn't my meaning. I saw this sentence:
You need a Gaio to better the Linn MM board.
But it's definitely best to listen for yourself if you can. Only you can judge if it's worth the difference.
